Father and son duo, going by the names of yosoy homeboy and yosoy homeboy jr. (lower case intentional), are Slam and Cruzito. Together, yosoy homeboy and yosoy homeboy jr. are homie graduates and proud alumni from Homeboy Industries, the largest gang reentry program on the planet, located in the gang capital of the world, Los Angeles, California. The mission statement of Homeboy Industries reads as follows: “Homeboy Industries provides hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community.” The current focus of yosoy homeboy and yosoy homeboy jr. as Homeboy S(chola)rs is both deeply personal to their emerging story, while also explored from within the communal bosom of their ongoing transformative experience(s) of now ‘being from’ Homeboy Industries. Together, as they consider how their bodies function as shared sites of struggle within the intended scope of mass incarcerations’ rehabilitative gaze, their sojourns revolve around exploring the radical kinship of a God who wastes nothing and even furthers the imaginative charge of those society considers ‘the disposable’. In this stride, they search to deploy a customizability for testing experimental and creative uses of street themes that can potentially be bent toward developing remixable strategies that aide those seeking to become contributing members of their communities as well. yosoy homeboy is a Masters of Divinity student at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. yosoy homeboy jr. is a seventh grader at REALM Charter, Berkeley, California, also located on the Pacific School of Religion campus. yosoy homeboy and yosoy homeboy jr. are also proud family members of the City of Refuge UCC church located in Oakland, California.
